The Chopin Year 2010 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Poland’s famous composer Fryderyk Chopin - discoverer of the soul of the piano.

His music combines elements of Polish culture with universal ones which appeals to people from different continents & cultural backgrounds making him a much beloved universal composer. His masterpieces are considered so significant to the Polish & global heritage they are included on UNESCO’s Memory of the World list (the cultural equivalent of the World Heritage List). He was voted one of Australia’s most prominent classical composers in the ABC Classic 100 Piano (2005)


The Government in Poland & the Polish diaspora are holding events throughout this year to mark this important anniversary.


The Council of Polish Organisations in the ACT has an extensive program of events under the theme - Universal Composer & Poet of the Piano.


It includes events from other participating Canberra cultural and other institutions.
The Council gratefully acknowledges the following institutions for their support or events: National Library of Australia, the Australian National University, the ANU School of Music, Alliance Francaise, Puls Polonii.
